Active4less fitness club in Luton recently raised over £1000 for Sence

Active4less fitness club in Luton recently raised over £1000 for Sence@Keech.

Sense@Keech is a service for young people aged 19 years upwards with sensory impairment and severe disabilities.

It is located at – and in co-operation with – the quiet and secluded Keech Hospice Care for children, near Luton, Bedfordshire, and opened in 2009.

Offering day care for up to 15 young adults, it is a unique provision, and one of the first of its kind in the UK.

Active4less fitness club in Luton decided to hold a fitness event in aid of the hospice. We held a Hour of Power masterclass at the, sold event t-shirts and took donations.

The class was a complete success and featured members of both Active4less in Luton and Active4less in Stevenage… instructed by Silva – one of the finest instructors in the county.

Member at Active4less Fitness Club in Luton loses a staggering 31 stone.

Graham Waugh, 45, piled on the pounds when depression and anxiety trapped him indoors for more than a decade, pushing his weight to a crippling 52 stone. He has now lost a total of n unbelievable 31 stone!

Fitness Club LutonOne of Britain’s fattest men who used to guzzle more than 100 pints of Coke a WEEK is opening the county’s first gym for the super obese – after he lost a staggering 31 stone.

Married Graham Waugh, 45, piled on the pounds when depression and anxiety trapped him indoors for more than a decade, pushing his weight to a crippling 52 stones.

He gorged on 12 takeaways and 21 family bags of peanut M&Ms a week, all washed down with a can of coke every half an hour – or more than 16 pints a DAY.

But determined Graham – who also used to smoke 80 cigarettes a day – turned his life around after his big brother suddenly died, spurring him to turn his life around.

He shed a stone a month thanks to a rigorous gym routine at Active4less fitness club in Luton, a strict diet and two operations – thought to be one of Britain’s biggest weight losses.

Graham is now drawing up a business plan for the UK’s first gym for overweight, obese and super obese people.

Fat Loss

He said “All I could concentrate was food. I felt like I had nothing else in my life. I would eat lunch and instantly think about what was for dinner. “I felt as if I was on death row – I know how these people feel – but now I got lucky and it worked out. It hasn’t been easy but I feel like a totally different man. I was expecting to be dead by now. I feel like I have cheated death without a doubt.”

His weight spiralled out of control when he suffered from heart palpitations aged 27 – weighing 27 stone – which caused him to panic and become a recluse.

He recalled: “I was scared. I kind of went into a hidey-hole and became a recluse for the best part of 15 years.”

“I was hidden away from people. I pushed family away. I pushed friends away. I had severe depression and anxiety and I just didn’t want to socialise with anybody.”

“I just felt that I didn’t want anybody to see me the size that I was and the only time I was really happy was when the curtains were shut at night time.

“I never left the house for about 15 years. The only time I did leave was to go to the hospital in a specially adapted ambulance. My life was dark. I was waiting for death to be honest with you, that’s the truth.”

Graham started a proper diet, replacing his five-meal dinner with vegetables and chicken, and cutting out fizzy drinks, fags and sweets.

As soon as he was able he joined Active4Less gym in Luton and started going for two-hour work outs at least four times a week, burning up to 4000 calories at a time.

Benefits of Protein Shakes After a Workout?

During a training session, whether it may be resistance or cardiovascular your muscles fibers tear and break down. The repairing and rebuilding process is done with amino acids which are the building blocks of protein. These amino acids encourage a healthy recovery and muscular growth, leading to increased strength, endurance and therefore fitness levels. Protein is an essential nutrient responsible for body functions such as building of muscle tissues and cells.

The recovery process of your workout is just as, if not MORE important than the workout itself.

Protein shakes are a great way to refuel after a workout. All good protein drinks including the ones given out free on our Premier Membership give a lot of nutrition for the rebuilding process with a small amount of calories (134 to be exact). As stated above after exercise, your body needs protein nutrients (amino acids) to recover and rebuild. One thing to note is that if you are taking a protein shake just to assist with the recovery process you should always check the calories in the shake you are taking doesn’t overtake the amount of calories burnt to cause an ineffective workout this does not apply if you are ‘bulking’ (a form of training/supplementation to put on weight).

A rough ideal amount of protein to have per day would be 2x your body weight in KG in grams of protein. Meaning that on training days if you weigh 80kg you should be having a minimum of 160grams of protein just for the recovery process. If you are ‘bulking’ you probably want to consider having something in the region of 3x your body weight in grams of protein.

Many gym users have their own opinion but if I had to suggest one protein shake to Active4less members it would be a 100% whey protein shake with low sugar content. A whey protein contains high levels of the essential amino acids: arginine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryphtophan, valine. The 100% whey protein would have ideally 25grams of protein per serving and a decent amount of complexed carbohydrates.
